Mine ventilation supplies fresh air to working faces and removes heat, dust, diesel particulate, and harmful gases such as methane, carbon monoxide, and radon. Ventilation engineers design primary and auxiliary fan circuits, model airflow networks, and balance the system as workings advance, all while meeting strict regulatory air-quality limits. The discipline is foundational to underground productivity and one of the largest single energy consumers on a typical underground mine.
