Shipfitting

Shipfitting is the fabrication and structural assembly trade that cuts, forms, and joins the steel sections making up a vessel's hull and internal compartments — a discipline increasingly intersecting with battery integration as shipyards install large energy-storage systems in new-build and retrofit projects. As a hard skill it requires reading ship structural drawings, operating cutting and forming equipment, fitting shell plates and frames to template, and welding structural joints to classification-society specification. Shipfitters apply these skills when constructing battery-room enclosures, reinforcing deck structures to carry heavy battery banks, and installing the foundation steelwork for battery racks inside hull compartments.
