Record Keeping & Lab Books
Laboratory record keeping and electronic or paper lab notebooks are the primary means of documenting experimental plans, procedures, observations, and results in a form that is legally and scientifically defensible. As a hard skill it requires recording contemporaneously with enough detail that a colleague could reproduce the experiment from the record alone, cross-referencing raw data files, and signing and dating entries in formats that satisfy IP and regulatory requirements. In battery R&D, strong record keeping protects patent priority, enables root-cause analysis when results are anomalous, and provides the audit trail required by funding agencies and ISO-certified testing laboratories.
