pH Meter
A pH meter measures hydrogen ion activity in a solution via a glass electrode whose potential varies with pH, providing an accurate reading of acidity or alkalinity in aqueous and near-aqueous systems. As a hard skill it requires calibrating with at least two certified buffer solutions that bracket the expected sample pH, conditioning and storing the electrode correctly, and applying temperature compensation and ionic strength corrections for accurate results. Battery researchers use pH measurement to characterize aqueous electrolyte and rinse solutions, monitor cathode precursor precipitation reactions where pH determines particle morphology and stoichiometry, and assess spent electrolyte and black mass leachate in recycling process development.
