As a hard skill it requires building and validating chemometric calibration models (PLS, PCR) from reference data, understanding baseline and scatter corrections for diffuse-reflectance measurements, and maintaining model validity as instrument and sample conditions change. Battery researchers apply NIR for rapid quality checks on incoming polymer binder and separator materials, and to monitor moisture content in electrode coatings during drying-process development.
