Hydrology in mining addresses how water moves through and around a deposit, controlling dewatering needs, pit-wall stability, tailings management, and downstream water quality. Practitioners measure aquifer properties, design well fields and depressurization systems, and model groundwater response to mining over the project life cycle. Effective hydrology is a precondition for both safe extraction and regulatory permitting in nearly every jurisdiction.
