Flotation Cell
Flotation cells separate valuable mineral particles from gangue by generating fine air bubbles in a slurry, to which hydrophobic particles selectively attach and float to the surface for collection. As a hard skill it requires understanding frother and collector reagent chemistry, adjusting impeller speed, air flow, and pH to maximize recovery and grade, and interpreting concentrate and tailings assays to diagnose process performance. Battery researchers and process engineers apply flotation to concentrate lithium minerals such as spodumene and lepidolite from ore, and to recover critical minerals from black mass in lithium-ion battery recycling.
