European Battery Alliance (EBA)
The European Battery Alliance (EBA) is an initiative launched by the European Commission in October 2017 to establish a competitive and sustainable battery manufacturing value chain in Europe. Its primary objective is to secure Europe’s strategic autonomy in the clean energy transition and reduce dependence on foreign battery technologies, particularly for the electric vehicle market. Coordinated by EIT InnoEnergy, the alliance unites over 800 industrial, financial, and academic stakeholders spanning the entire lifecycle from raw material mining to battery recycling. The EBA coordinates massive pan-European investment frameworks and provides regulatory support to ramp up domestic production to meet strict net-zero manufacturing targets. Additionally, the alliance manages the European Battery Academy to upskill and reskill hundreds of thousands of workers needed to power this rapidly growing sector.
