SiTration
SiTration is an MIT spinout founded in 2020 and based in Watertown, MA, that develops silicon membrane technology to recover critical minerals like lithium, cobalt, and nickel from battery recycling and mining waste. The company's electro-extraction process combines electrical voltage with tunable silicon membranes to separate and purify metals from complex liquid streams, achieving over 95% recovery rates. SiTration has raised approximately $17.7M to date and in April 2025 opened an 11,000-square-foot R&D and pilot facility to scale operations. Led by CEO Dr. Brendan Smith and backed by investors including Azolla Ventures, Extantia Capital, and Orion Resource Partners, the company targets the growing demand for sustainably sourced materials in the electric vehicle battery supply chain.
