The University of Maine at Machias, founded in 1909, is a small public college located in Machias, Maine, on the Downeast coast, offering undergraduate programs in marine biology, environmental science, and integrative biology. The Marine Biology program provides rigorous training in marine ecology, shellfish mariculture, aquaculture, and GIS-based spatial analysis, with field access to the tidal waters and coastal habitats of eastern Maine and the Bay of Fundy. The Integrative Biology program combines cellular, organismal, and ecosystem-level biology with applications in environmental science and conservation.
