Northwestern Michigan College
Northwestern Michigan College is a public two-year community college located in Traverse City, Michigan, home to the Great Lakes Maritime Academy — one of only seven degree-granting maritime academies in the United States. The college's maritime programs train deck and engineering officers for careers on Great Lakes and ocean-going vessels, with graduates sitting for U.S. Coast Guard licensing exams at both the associate and bachelor's degree levels. Aviation programs include a traditional flight-track associate degree and a cutting-edge Uncrewed Aerial Systems Technology program addressing the rapidly growing drone industry. Engineering technology programs span Robotics and Automation, Electronics Technology, Manufacturing Technology, and Welding, while Surveying with GIS and Computer Information Technology in cybersecurity and software development round out the technical curriculum. Northwestern Michigan College's unique combination of maritime, aviation, and advanced manufacturing programs, set on the shores of Grand Traverse Bay, makes it one of the most distinctive workforce development institutions in the Great Lakes region.
